TGI Fridays Menu: History of the brand
The first TGI restaurant was opened in 1965. Alan Stillman was the one who opened it in Manhattan. He lived on a street where many stewardesses, Models, and secretaries that he thought would become their customers. Therefore, he wanted to own a bar. There was a bar named The Good Tavern that he visited often. He borrowed $5000 from his mother and mixed it with his own $5000 to buy this same bar. Thereafter, he renamed it to TIG Fridays after the expression that says “Thank God it’s Friday”.
This new bar and restaurant started to serve American cuisine, bar food and alcoholic beverages. However, they put a lot of effort into emphasizing on the quality of food and its preparation. In 1975, this whole company and brand was sold to Carlson Companies. Thereafter, all the original investors and Stillman posted ways with this brand after its sale. However, Stillman made a deal of keeping the original location. Furthermore, this company again became a privately owned business in 1989. Many years later on May 20 2014 TGI Fridays was again sold to Sentinel Capital Partners and TriArtisan Capital Partners.

- Firstly, in 2013 17 of TGI Fridays Franchised restaurants in New Jersey got raided by investigators. All these raids were part of the “Operation Swill”. Furthermore, all these franchised restaurants were under the ownership of The Briad Group. What they found in these raids was that all these places were upto a scam. Basically, they were replacing all the premium branded alcoholic drinks with lower cost brands. Whereas, at the same time they were charging their customers according to the premium drinks. Hence, customers ended up paying more than what they owed.
- Thereafter, in 2018 management of TGI Fridays ended up changing the tipping policy a bit. Their decision was that 20 percent of all the customer tips which are paid by card are going to be transferred to the kitchen staff. - Lastly, while the war between Ukraine and Russia was ongoing in 2022, this brand TGI Fridays straight up refused to withdraw from the Russian market.
